Hand Plays from the Front Page for 8/2/98

The game is 9/6 Jacks or Better with a 4000-coin Royal.

Inside straights are generally a no-no in this game, but there are a few exceptions. This, however, isn't one of them. If the Jack and Queen weren't suited, the correct play would be to hold 9,J,Q,K. But, since the J and Q suited are the most desirable of the 2-card Royal Flush draws, it wins out. Here are the numbers:
Hold J,Q: 2.9322
Hold 9,J,Q,K: 2.6596

Hand Plays from the Front Page for 7/20/98

The game is 9/6 Jacks or Better with a 4000-coin Royal

A lot of players miss this one. With 3 high cards, it's worth going for the inside straight. Here are the numbers:
Hold J, Q, K: 2.5023
Hold 9, J, Q, K: 2.6595

Hand Plays from the Front Page for 7/13/98

The game is 10/7 Double Bonus with a 4000-coin Royal.

I was playing with a friend last night when she was dealt this hand. She said she always held just one pair to go for the Four-of-a-Kind and I told her that was a big mistake, since the Full House at this game pays 50 for 5. I didn't realize just how big her mistake was until I did this calculation. Here are the numbers:
Hold 2-pairs: 8.8298
Hold 4,4: 4.1551

Hand Plays from the Front Page for 6/28/98

The game is 10/7 Double Bonus with a 4000-coin Royal.

Since the Flush pays 35 for 5, it's a very important play. Most players would go for the Royal, but the Flush is the proper play. Here are the numbers:
Hold 4 diamonds: 7.6596
Hold J, Q, K: 7.5856

Hand Plays from the Front Page for 6/21/98

The game is 9/6 Jacks or Better with a 4000-coin Royal

A pair normally takes precedence over a straight in this game, but with this hand we have enough high cards to make the straight the better play. Here are the numbers:
Hold 10,J,Q, K: 4.3617
Hold 10, 10: 4.1184

Hand Plays from the Front Page for 6/8/98

The game is 9/7 Double Bonus with a 6000-coin progressive.

Because four Aces pay 800 for 5, holding the 10 is normally a liability. But, with the Royal at 6000 coins, the two-card Royal draw is the correct play. Here are the numbers:
Hold A,10: 2.3262
Hold A only: 2.2629

With the Royal at 4000 coins, holding the A,10 has an expectation of 2.2029.
