Pick A Game! Part 1
But not just any game. The choices a player has at video poker are increasing almost daily, but not every game is worth playing. In fact, in many markets, most games should be avoided. As familiar as I am with a lot of the video poker games, I often get confused as to what's a good deal and what's a bad one, and I've often wanted to carry a list of some sort which would help me separate the wheat from the chaff. That's what this article hopes to accomplish; provide a means of determining which game is good and which is bad. Just print this story out, trim off the excess and carry it with you to the casino. As time goes on, I'll add games, so this will be a continuing resource for you. Perhaps someday we'll put it all together into some sort of 'pocket guide', but for now we'll remain cyber-publishers.
This first installment will cover 'Jacks or Better' games, as well as some variations which you may find. If there's a game you'd like to see here, please e-mail the pay schedule and I'll get it up, eventually.
Unlike most video poker authors, I like to show the 5-coin payoff so that there's no confusion regarding jackpot-style payoffs, yet these games are often referred to by their 1-coin pay schedules, like "9/6" Jacks, etc. I'll keep that terminology, but show the 5-coin pays. The term 'theoretical return' refers to the long term payback percentage if the player utilizes proper playing strategy for that game. Incidentally, all my figures on progressive jackpots are in quarters; for dollar games, multiply by 4.
