Downtown Vs. "Strip" Odds.
The most visible differences between Downtown and “Strip” odds are payoffs on the Place Bets of the 6 and 8 and payoffs on the 2,3, 11 and 12.
Downtown a $3 Place Bet on the 6 or 8 pays $3.50. (You get the 50 cents) On the “Strip” “The House” rounds off this bet and only pays $3.00. This, however is only significant to a $3 Place Better. More importantly are the differences in the proposition bets of 2,3,11 and 12. Downtown the 2 and 12 pay 31 for 1 (30 to 1) and the 3 and 11 pay 16 for 1 (15 to 1). On “The Strip” the 2 and 12 pay 30 for 1 (29 to 1) and the 3 and 11 pay 15 for 1 (14 to 1) which reduces your odds and increases “House Take” to 16.67% (The same as the Big Red 7). If reading the rest of the content in this website has not convinced you to lay off of the proposition bets than you should be selective about the casino and the table that you play on.
| Facts: |
| 3 or 11 (Downtown) | “House Take” | 11.1% |
| 3 or 11 (“Strip”) | “House Take” | 16.67% |
| 2 or 12 (Downtown) | “House Take” | 13.89% |
| 2 or 12 (“Strip”) | “House Take” | 16.67% |
Please note than when making proposition bets on the 2,3,11 or 12 in most “Strip” casinos your wager is just like the Big Red 7 on ANY table and is the worst bet on the whole craps table. You should also note that because payoffs on the 2,3,11 and 12 are reduced in most “Strip” casinos that combination wagers made on Craps/Eleven (C and E), 7-11, The Horn bet, Hi-Low-Yo, Ace/Deuce –11, HI-LOW, 11/12, The Horn High Combinations, the “World” Bet, 7 or 11 “Buffaloes”, and 3-Way Craps are reduced also. These wagers suck your money even on a downtown table. Another minor note is that some “Strip” casinos, in fairness to the players, do not even have a Corner 6 or 8 on their table layouts.
By reading this section do not assume that it means that it is necessarily better to do your gaming Downtown. This section is structured to provide information based on the way you place your wagers or what kind of a system you might use and to assist you in making your selection of a casino that will provide you the best opportunity to win by reducing “House Take”. Another significant factor is for you to seriously consider which casinos provide multiple odds options (10X, 20X and 100X odds) for the players on the Pass Line and Don’t Pass Line.
Note: The terms “Downtown Odds” and “Strip Odds” are generalities. Some downtown properties have “Strip Odds” and some Strip Casinos feature “Downtown Odds”. The important thing for you as a player is to assess the table, the odds and the casino ambiance BEFORE YOU PLAY.
