The 2000 Carnivale of Poker was held at Harrahs in
Las Vegas. I was there for three events in which
I covered on The Poker Show.
A Frenchman named Angelo Besnainou won the $5,000
Championship Event. There were 212 entrants in the
$5,000 Buy-In, for a total prize pool of $1,060,000. 3
tables were paid, a total of 27 players.
The Poker Show has over 10 videos in the 2000
Carnivale of Poker series. All elimination's from
the Final Table are video graphed at ringside.
1998 WSOP $3,000 Texas Hold'em champion Farzad
Bonyadi was second. Annie Duke was the first woman to
make the Final Table at the Carnivale Championship
event. Phil Hellmuth, Jr. finished third in a great
composed performance. Phil is in tune, still..
Men The Master Nguyen was at the final table drinking
his trademark Corona beer. If anyone from Corona reads
this, tell them that Men would make a great
endorsement.
During a moment at the 2000 Carnivale, Amarillo Slim
Preston and Bob Stupak wagered chips as they lagged
closest to the wall. There was a big crowd. Many
participated. Very interesting event.. That is also
seen on The Poker Show.
The Tournament Director Carol Trimble. The Rio is
where the first two Carnivale of Poker's were.
Steve Morrow left after the second event and veteran
Tournament Director Bob Thompson took over. These
words are Steve's:
Hi all. Long time lurker,
first time poster. First I'd like to congratulate
Tournament Champion Angelo Beshnainou and all of the
other event
winners. I only wish I had been there to do it in
person. I have read your posts with great interest
since returning to my home in Baton Rouge. For the
sake
of the tournament I decided to withhold my response
until it was over.
Of particular interest was the following post from
RazzO on Jan. 20th:"both Bob Thompson and Carol
Trimble said that Steve could not see thing's the way
Carol and whoever else did, or wanted too. Carol says
Steve is still a friend and a great poker tourn
official. I don't know if he voluntarily left, or was
asked.." For the record, I did not quit. I
would never, under any circumstances, betray the trust
of the players by voluntarily leaving in the middle of
a tournament. Also for the record, I did nothing
wrong.
There were no issues of honesty, wrongdoing or
dereliction of duty. As always, I gave 100% effort to
the success of the tournament. I followed all written
and stated instructions regarding all known
policies. My wife is dying to know how Mrs.
Trimble treats her enemies. As for the rumors that
I have personally heard and read concerning the
tournament and my termination, these are some personal
observations:I had no involvement whatsoever in
the organization of this tournament, beyond providing
the schedule and event structures. I was not even
allowed to choose my own personal assistants. All
decisions were made by Mrs. Trimble and Harrah's.
I received no compensation whatsoever from the sale
of hotel rooms. My contract was in no way affected
by the revenue or expenses of the tournament.
Brent Carter declined to produce photo-identification
for tax purposes, therefore I declined to pay Mr.
Carter his winnings, as I was instructed. I did not
inspire or conspire with Mr. Carter. He acted on his
own, as he had done previously at the Bicycle Club and
possibly at other casinos. In fact, on the day before
I was fired, I gave Mrs. Trimble correct advice, that
if heeded, would have prevented a challenge by Mr.
Carter. My downfall, apparently, is that I treated Mr.
Carter with the same respect and cooperation that I
would have afforded any other player with any other
valid concern.
My dismissal from the Carnivale, coupled with the
subsequent notice that I have been replaced as the
tournament coordinator of the upcoming World Poker
Open in Tunica this March, leaves me little choice
but to explore new career paths. It has been an
honor and a pleasure to have served you all the past
seven years. I look forward to seeing you in the
future from the other side of the table.
Respectfully,
Steve Morrow
Chip Reese, Doyle Texas Dolly Brunson turned out at
the 2000 Carnivale. As a matter of fact, Champ Angelo
knocked Chip out on day one. Chip raised all in(?)
with Q/Q and Angelo called with Ace-hearts/10?, flop
comes, 2-3-6, with two hearts, comes HEART-HEART!

Online poker
I have just recently started playing online poker. It's fun.
I play at http://www.poker.com - Poker.com, Inc. This a new Company
that went public (stock) and wants to have a great website/client
to offer. The software there now is a leased version. It runs fast
and there is no rake taken 5 players or less. support@poker.com has
something they will send (tell'em RazzO sent ya'z), or goto website
and download game machine and credit proccessing software. It's
really fun. Just get $100. off your card(or other avenues) and play!
I have some help files at http://pokerworld.com/pokercom.htm - It's
an honest game(s) with everyone who plays identified. Poker.com has
just started $1-$2 & $2-$4 Texas hold'em, to go along with the $3-$6
& $5-$10 & $10-$20. Its graphics are real nice and the setup is easy.
As I said, the help instructions I offer are mentioned above.
I will be covering the 2000 Carnivale of Poker, at Harrahs in Las
Vegas this coming year. http://poker2000.com - The Poker Show
I just returned from the Seniors VI tournament in Compton CA. At
Crystal Park Casino. Steve Slicker is 1999 Seniors champ. That's
all at The Poker Show, along with the 1999 Seniors Hall of Fame
inductees, Rod Peate and Vince Burgio.
The 2000-1995 World Series of Poker can be seen at my mentors site,
Chuck Weinstock..http://conjelco.com/wsop - Chuck as many know has
years of WSOP finish records. The Tournament of Champions has a
website, now. http://www.tocpoker.com were many WSOP records and
the 1999 TOC records can be found.
Also, The Poker Show has a series of videos in which world class
limit hold'em player Mike Laing discusses his play while on Jack
Daniels. There many who have discussed his habits(playing) on
news:rec.gambling.poker (R.G.P.) as could being the best limit
player in the world if it wasn't for his drinking. He is the
1994 WSOP limit hold'em world champion and talks about "being
staked" in a game. 4 time world champion Mike Hart also has a
video about being staked.
good luck in 2000..
yours,
razzo
