Let's Look At Luck

Hi again fellow gamblers.

Q. You're down to your last $50. You have already lost a packet. What do you do?
A. Buy yourself a nice cold beer or wine and call it a day.

Too many people will gamble their last dollar in the hope that the luck will turn their way. Odds are that you will only lose that last dollar as well and end up walking out of the Casino with only the shirt on your back.

When your luck is not in, it's just not in.

DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND STOP RELYING ON LUCK.

What is LUCK?
How do we define LUCK?
Is it LUCK when you hit your thumb with a hammer, when only milliseconds before you tell yourself to watch you don't hit your thumb?

Is it LUCK when some poor soul rams into the back of your brand new car?

Is it LUCK when you find yourself facing the law for something you didn't do?

OF COURSE NOT!

Well.... why do we say it is luck when we get that great winning streak. This also has nothing to do with LUCK. Luck is only a name we have placed on an outcome because it is positive to us.

To put it simply, it was meant to happen. Some may call it FATE. (Hey... I can see lots of you close minded gamblers already starting to cringe at what I just said.....who is this dude?.....what sort of garbage is he going on about?..). I warned you in my last column that I get a bit mystical at times. All I ask is that you hear me out and perhaps open your mind to another possibility.

This is 1 approach that if you're game to give it a try you might be surprised. Ok.....my last statement was....It was meant to happen! If it was meant to happen...What can we do about it? Well in the case of gambling I believe we can do a little to help warn us about what may happen. (Oops....I just lost another 100 readers... :0)

I will warn you.....you may find this a bit bizarre. All I can say is test it yourself and then make a judgement.

For those of you that have reached this far and are a bit sceptical, there is another not so unusual approach further in this column. What I am suggesting is that you start using what is around you to help you to start seeing what the outcome may be for your days gambling. This suggestion may seem very strange to most people but believe me, you will soon see when your best days to gamble are.

You do this by building a database of information. (NO.... its not recording numbers or hands or cards or anything like that). This is a database of knowledge. (There go another 55 gamblers...I've lost them...its all too hard). We start of by recording all of the information relating to our days gambling. Date, Time of Start Playing (Morning, Noon, Evening, Night), Table Number, the units you're betting in, how many players at the table, more Males players than Females or vise versa, Left or Right Hand table (Roulette), Mini, Midi or Big Baccarat, Pit Number, Whether the Dealer is Male of Female or (Mixed for Craps), The color of the dealers Vest, what the weather is like (sunny, windy, rainy, snowy), The color of your shirt (dress, pants), the Jewelery you are wearing... This list can go on and on. It can get as weird or wacky as you like. It is up to you how much information you want to record. I say the more information you gather it will really help you to build a very successful database of information.

In my own database of information I use to play Roulette. I only ever play 19-36 even chances, on even numbered days (2nd, 4th, 6th and so on...) and only ever on a left handed Roulette table. I also seem to win more money on wet days, when I am wearing my white shoes. I think you get my drift. I get laughed at quite regularly when I tell people about my theory, but I know it works and you will only know if it works if you try it. Many gamblers have their lucky rabbits foot or they rub their lucky coin.....

Anyhow for those of you that may be looking for a more practical way to win, I have a few ideas for you.

Many gamblers just place money on the table and they don't even consider the odds that are against them before they start. (I am asuming here that all gamblers do it to win).

If there were 3 horses in a race and 2 of those horses only had 3 legs each, which horse would you bet on? OF COURSE you would back the horse with 4 legs.(Well I would anyway....) But there are lots of gamblers out there that would back 1 of the 3 legged horses because the odds are more attractive. Give me even money anytime for the 4 legged horse. Sure the 4 legged horse could fall over and 1 of the other horses win, but is that probable?

Casino games have been devised to attract and make money (not for the gambler) for the Casino. If these games were easy to win at, we wouldn't have Casinos very long.

Well How Can we Win?

Ask yourself..... are you playing the best possible odds you can play?!

If you're playing BlackJack and you split 5's, you are increasing the odds that the house will beat you.

If you're playing Roulette and you place a bet on a single number, you have 1 chance in 37 or 38 of that number coming up. That means the Casino has 36 or 37 chances that their number will come up.

Baccarat is a great game to play where the odds are little more fairer, although the 5% vig makes up that bit for the house.

Craps is thought to be the best odds but it can be a difficult game for some people to learn.

No matter what game you like to play, look at wether you are playing the best odds. (As close to 50% chance of winning as you can get). I know that may not sound very attractive, but in reality if you want to win consistently you need to always play the best odds.

To also help you to win you need a betting strategy, a money management plan and a strict set of guidlines that will help you to cut your losses and make the most of your wins. Often the person that wins never knows when to stop and ultimately they end up losing what they had won.

This is where a system can be a great asset to the gambler. There are many systems around. A good system should help you to keep track of your losses and it should also help you with money management, a playing strategy and most importantly it should give you a guideline of when it's time to quit, whether you are winning or losing. I strongly believe that almost ANY system is better than NO System at all. No system at all relies totally on the gambler to decide wether they have suffered enough or if their GREED has been satisfied.

Anyhow I think I have probably bored you enough for now.

I'd be interested to hear from any of you that are game enough to try my Information Database. Till next time!
