Video Poker Playing Tip

Anyone who plays video poker loses a lot. That's simply because so much of the value in it is tied up in hitting a royal flush, so until it comes, you're playing a game with a house edge of 2% or more. Sometimes I can cut my losses for the day, or even get back to where I started by getting a 'feel' for my play. By that, I don't mean I start playing hunches or start chasing my losses. Remember, the true test of a casino is a test of your discipline, so I never carry my ATM card with me into a casino and I play only with cash which I'm prepared to lose.

But sometimes I'll play and get ahead right away, then go for several hours without seeing even a hint of a 4-of-a-kind. Often I'll stop, take a break, maybe get something to eat and then go looking for a machine which has bailed me out lots of times. The one I'm referring to is called 'Bonus Poker Deluxe' and it pays 400 for 5 on any 4K. What I usually do is play a dollar machine and put in just 3 coins at a time. Since I never carry more than $200 with me when I'm playing quarter machines, I might have $60 or $80 left and I change that into dollar tokens. With 3 coins played, a 4K pays $240 on this machine, and I know that even on the worst days, a 4K will pop up sooner or later. If it does before my $$$ run out, I'm even or a bit profitable and I walk away. If I don't get the 4K, I'm down $200 and I walk.

This machine pays only 99% in the long run, so while it's not great, it's nice to have around for a quick 'hit'. But remember, I'm only there because it's been a long time between 4K's; hunches and psychic predictions have nothing to do with it.
